Forgotten

Something old but quite nice. Found this when we were tidying up. They were a series of post cards, rejected by the one who commissioned them. And then forgotten about.

Penguin Wallpaper

The family of Penguin Wallpaper is now complete. The clean, repetitive pattern gives the impression of extending the space where it is hung. First there was Turquoise inspired by the infinite, delicate hues of an Atacama Sky...

Next came reflection Silver. The Silver has some black mixed in for greater contrast, and the colour effect changes with the light in the room...

Wasabi Green was next on our wish list. the colour inspired by the Japanese Horse radish that  will only grow in pure, clean, free-flowing water...

And now to complete the line-up, Plum. A solid, hearty British Plum...

All four colourways were chosen to be neutral and calming, to show-off the Penguin pattern. They are all available from ISAK and selected retailers in standard 10m rolls. £30/roll.

A memory...

Rain makes us nostalgic...  It never used to rain like this... Here's a sunny Swedish memory.

Dad cought the fish, I hawled it in from the back of the boat. Grandad gutted it on the jetty. Mum went for a wee under a spruce. Mormor picked blueberries for dessert and my cousins collected dead wood for the fire. We would eagerly eat the perfectly flame grilled trout handed out to us on paper plates and drink fresh water, straight from the lake. By the time it got dark someone would inevitably have had too much moonshine, stumbled over their clogs and fallen in to the water. Those were beautiful happy days. In the morning we would be awakened early by the birds, crawl out of our sleeping bags and count the mosquito bites. The one with most had to empty the wee bucket. It never failed - it was always me emptying that bucket...

The Last Batch

The Blossom & Bill Classic Red tray introduced the couple as ISAK's global design ambassadors. It has been a very popular and well featured product which epitomises the ISAK design ethic. Clean, fun, vibrant and bursting with life. Blossom & Bill continue on their journey of discovery but The Classic Red Tray is coming to an end. The final batch has been pressed, coated and finished by hand. Each tray made from 7 birchwood laminates from the sustainable forests of Sweden. Each tray part made by Trolls in the heart of the forest. The Trolls are now busy making the Blue Blossom & Bill tray that will continue to be available for a while. Each tray comes slipped into a 100% cotton tote so that you can carry it home or to the dinner party and use the bag to continue carrying your swag wherever you go.

But for now there will be no more red at the factory. Pick one up while you can...

Lastest news on our fabric

On Tuesday we went to see the first perfect meters of our Familjen fabric roll off the print but oh so disappointing it was... The screens had been made in the wrong order and the print looked diabolic... Nothing else to do but to have new screens made... This is of course causing delay... We'll keep you posted.

Stay warm

Tucked away in the mid-Norwegian hinterland south-east of Trondheim is the quiet town of Roros. It is a small community. A place without pretention, renown or significance. A one-time mining community where copper from pulled out from beneath the old-fold mountains.

When a childless Director of the mine died in the 1700s, he bequeathed his wealth to the local community that had served him and the mine. He set up a foundation to supply free yarn to the community and teach them to weave.

Roros is now listed as a World Heritage Site with over 100 original dwellings preserved and maintained as they were in the mining days. Now the town has nothing to offer but tranquility, beauty and a sense of belonging. On the outskirts of the town there is still a textile plant run by father and daughter Erling and Arnstein Digernes. They still produce the finest lambswool blankets in the world with 100% pure Norwegian wool. Each blanket is inspected by hand and the wool is teased up with needles to give better thermal properties. The blanket will last you a lifetime.

This is where ISAK came to produce our Penguin blankets. Blankets that will keep you warm and carry your memories for the rest of your life.

Top Drawer Autumn 09

A beautiful late summer day greeted us for the set-up at London's Olympia for Top Drawer Autumn 2009. We soon bumped into friends to exchange gossip and ideas, inbetween wallpapering, putting up shelves and doing the opposite of flat-packing!

The show gave us a chance to present some new products that are just coming out of production after a year of preparation. They will be available on our new website that will go live next month. Look out for new wallpaper, cups, posters and fabric.

It was great to see all of you who came by the stand to say hello. It is one of the few chances to put a face to an e-mail! We hope you had an eventful visit and a safe journey home. There are so many good people out there working hard to produce and retail some great products. A special thanks to Jackie from Pearl & Earl for letting us fill up her camper van.

See you all in January!

Chilean beets

We love beetroot! When we went to Chile a few years ago we had them steamed with carrots and spring onions as a side dish to oven roasted cod loins covered in garlic and ginger. Mmmm...

Junior Magazine

This months issue of Junior Magazine is dedicated to one of our favourite things...FOOD!
We gave them a sneek-peek at our Fika dipping cups and they have featured them as a method to tempt our young gastropups (see No.4 in the Compendium).
The cups will be available in November as a pair; One Harvest design and one Familjen design. The cups can be used for drinks, snacks, sipping or dipping.

Available from ISAK
